Spring Graduation Spotlight: Grant Mitzelfelt

Grant Mitzelfelt will graduate from Hardin-Simmons University on Friday, May 10, 2024, with a 4.0 GPA and a major in Christian studies. Hailing from Round Rock, Texas, Grant decided to come to HSU to pursue his biblical learning and play baseball at a college level. His wife, also from Round Rock, chose to attend HSU independently, where they would deepen their relationship before getting married this past year. “She claims I followed her,” he shared, “but I think it’s the other way around.” 

Grant has pitched for the HSU baseball team for four years and has been a part of the honors program for the same time. His greatest accomplishment for the team was helping them get to the conference championship last year.  

Grant enjoyed living on campus during his time at HSU. “Living with my best friends and being around so many others was a great experience. Staying at the apartments helped make some of my favorite memories.” 

Grant’s advice to incoming students is simply to have fun. “Go play games on Anderson Lawn, play basketball in the Rec, just go out and have fun with other students. It’s possible to take academics seriously and still have fun.” 

After graduating, Grant plans to spend another year at HSU to complete his prerequisite classes for Physician Assistant school.

Dr. Larry McGraw, Associate Dean School of Theology and Professor of Bible, only had good things to say about his student. “Grant Mitzelfelt gives evidence of his spiritual relationship through his ministries to students, the community, and the church. It will be exciting to see where the next chapter of his ministry will lead him.”
